Women Out Walking
Back by Popular Demand! The City of Cleveland Heights Parks and Recreation Department is excited to bring back the 2019 Women Out Walking 12-week program, from May 5 through July 28, focusing on encouraging 150 women (age 18 to senior citizens) to live a healthier and more active lifestyle one fun step at a time. Last year over 30 million steps were taken by program participants.
This simple program encourages women to walk daily (individually or in teams) and to log their steps on the City website. Walking is a simple exercise with many health benefits including weight management, improved heart health and stress reduction. WOW participants will be encouraged to walk around Cleveland Heights’ beautiful neighborhoods, parks and pedestrian-friendly pathways, business districts and the community center walking track.
Program Registration is free. Must be a Cleveland Heights resident to participate. Residents can sign up to participate individually or on a team of friends (5 people per team). Each participant or team will register and log their steps on the city website on a weekly basis. The steps will be compiled and shared over the 12-week program with special recognition for the person and team with the most steps at the end.
Free educational workshops on various topics including nutrition, positive self-image as well as free or discounted women’s self-defense sessions and fitness classes will be provided throughout the 12-week program to support healthy living.
